      Groups are responsible for the quarterly litter collection of the assigned roadway section for a two year period with the right to renew. This program is for litter pick up only; planting and/or mowing shall not be permitted. The Village of Cary reserves the right to terminate the agreement due to inactivity and remove the honorary signage. The Village will provide a 30-day notice prior to any action.
    3. Groups will assign a coordinator who will be responsible for all communication with the Village and to ensure guidelines are followed.
    4. Adult supervision is required for anyone under the age of 18 and an adult must be present for every 5 youths present. Children under the age of 10 are not permitted to participate.
    5. After six months of successful cooperation, an "Adopt-A-Roadway sign identifying the group name will be placed on each end of the adopted roadway section in recognition of the volunteer effort.
    6. The group coordinator must notify the Public Works Department prior to scheduled cleanup in order to procure appropriate materials and verify materials are available.
    7. The Public Works Department will drop off two “Clean-up Crews Working” signs at a requested location prior to the scheduled event. Public Works will pick up the signs when notified the same day garbage/recyclables are picked up.
    8. Group members and volunteers are prohibited from carrying, using or being under the influence of any drugs or alcohol during litter removal.
    9. Any bulky items or hazardous materials found shall be reported to the Public Works Department. Wallets, IDs, credit cards, keys, etc. shall be reported to the Police Department.
    10. Clean Up
      Adopt-A-Roadway sections shall be limited to a minimum length of one mile.
    11. At least one clean-up will be conducted per quarter (Jan-Mar, April-June, July-Sept, Oct-Dec).
    12. Both sides of the roadway will be cleaned up; one side will be cleaned up at a time.
    13. The Village will provide necessary signage, gloves, bags and vests. The group coordinator will contact Public Works at least 3 days prior to the event and the day after to arrange for pick up.
    14. The Village encourages recycling. Please separate recyclables from non-recyclables.
    15. A “Clean-Up Crew Working” warning sign shall be placed on both ends of the roadway section prior to the start of activity. These signs shall be knocked down when not in use.
    16. Litter collection shall not occur on days of inclement weather, during peak rush hour or at night.
    17. All vehicles must be parked off the roadway section and no parking will be allowed along curves, near underpasses or in medians.
    18. The safety checklist will be reviewed with group members prior to any activity.
