At the February 14, 2019 meeting, Zoning, Planning and Appeals Board members elected to table a vote on the motion to allow for minor revisions to the UDO. The hearing is continued to the April 11, 2019 Zoning, Planning and Appeals Board meeting at 6:30 p.m., Cary Village Hall. The public is invited to attend. Any revisions to the UDO will be posted within two weeks of the meeting date. You are encouraged to contact Village staff at 847.639.1100 with any questions.
The Village of Cary is undertaking a comprehensive update to its development regulations. The result of this update will be the adoption of a new Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO, and zoning map.
The UDO will guide future land use development in Cary’s neighborhoods, downtown, corridors, and employment areas. For comparison, the last comprehensive update to the Village’s Zoning Ordinance was performed in 1997 and the Village Sign Ordinance in 2001.
The Village of Cary retained the services of Houseal Lavigne Associates, LLC to assist with the process of updating our development regulations through a series of public workshops with the consultant team, Board of Zoning, Planning and Appeals (ZPA), and Village staff. The main focus of the code update was to make the code more user friendly and utilize best planning practices. Existing standards within the code which were still applicable were retained and placed within the revised UDO’s structure. Some areas of the code however were redrafted to clearly define review processes, code requirements, and better achieve the Village’s land use vision.
