Overview
The Village of Cary's Public Works Department assumes the most comprehensive and diverse range of responsibilities in the village. The Public Works Department is comprised of two divisions, the Streets Division and the Utilities Division. Together, they strive to provide a wide variety of fundamental services to the residents of Cary in an efficient, reliable manner.

Streets
The Streets Division maintains more than 150 lane miles of streets. The division is responsible for the following:

  • Building maintenance
  • Curb & gutter
  • Parkway tree maintenance
  • Pavement striping and crack sealing
  • Sanitary sewer maintenance
  • Sidewalks & bike paths
  • Street maintenance
  • Village-owned property mowing

  • Snow and ice control operations
  • Storm sewer maintenance
  • Street signs and lights
  • Street sweeping
  • Vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Special events        
  • Cemetery maintenance


Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment
The Utilities Division provides safe, potable drinking water and processes wastewater for all Cary residents and businesses. The division is responsible for:

  • Hydrant flushing
  • Water meter maintenance and replacement 
  • Potable water and wastewater sampling and analysis
  • Water storage tower maintenanc
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Water distribution maintenance
  • Facility maintenance
  • Liftstation service

The Public Works Department is a recipient of the Illinois Department of Public Health's award for Perfect Compliance with the Illinois Fluoridation Act .

The Village of Cary Wastewater Treatment Facility was honored by the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators as "2010 Plant of the Year" for excellence of operation.
