Public Works
The Village of Cary's Public Works Department assumes the most comprehensive and diverse range of responsibilities in the village. The Public Works Department is comprised of two divisions, the Operations and Maintenance Division and the Water and Wastewater Division. Together, they strive to provide fundamental services to the residents of Cary in an efficient, reliable manner.

Operations & Maintenance
The Operations and Maintenance division maintains more than 150 lane miles of streets. The division is responsible for the following:

  • Building maintenance
  • Curb & gutter
  • Parkway tree maintenance
  • Pavement striping and crack sealing
  • Sanitary sewer maintenance
  • Sidewalks & bike paths
  • Street maintenance
  • Village-owned property mowing

  • Snow and ice control operations
  • Storm sewer maintenance
  • Street signs and lights
  • Street sweeping
  • Vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Street maintenance
  • Special events
  • Cemetery maintenance

Water & Wastewater
The Water and Wastewater Division provides safe, potable drinking water and processes wastewater for all Cary residents and businesses. The division is responsible for:

  • Hydrant flushing
  • Water meter maintenance
  • Potable water and wastewater sampling and analysis
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Water distribution maintenance
  • Facility maintenance
  • Liftstation service

Awards & Recognitions

The Public Works Water Division is a recipient of the Illinois Department of Public Health's award for Perfect Compliance with the Illinois Fluoridation Act for the past 16 consecutive years.

The Village of Cary Wastewater Treatment Facility has been honored by the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators as "2010 Plant of the Year" for excellence of operation.
